Cuadernos de Pesimismo is delighted to announce the Call for Papers on “Pessimism in the Schopenhauer-School”. If Schopenhauer himself can be called a pessimist, is debated in literature, but there is no doubt that he had a strong influence on the development on pessimistic philosophy in the 19th century, which was mainly carried by the Schopenhauer School. Especially Eduard von Hartmann, Julius Bahnsen and Philipp Mainländer created metaphysical pessimistic systems which Nietzsche criticized while he himself affirmed a “powerful pessimismus”. But also less-known disciples of the Schopenhauer School, such as Friedrich Dorguth, Julius Frauenstädt or David Asher, took the pessimistic approach more or less extensively. Currently, pessimism has become demand due to global crises and insecurity, and in connection with this demand the pessimism of the Schopenhauer School garnered some interest.

Cuadernos de pesimismo is an annual journal which explores the significance and the implications of pessimism in philosophy and culture. The fourth issue will accept contributions on those aspects that have contributed to the interpretation of Schopenhauer's thought, as well as to the debates that were generated in the cultural, literary or political sphere in the Schopenhauer School (taken in a broad sense). Papers should be submitted in English, French, Italian, Portuguese, German or Spanish, and must be submitted no later than February 15, 2025. Accepted contributions will be published in the volume IV.
